FREE Folk Music Workshop for Kids this Friday, May 18 (part of Montauk Music Fest)
Directly after school on Friday May 18th (3:15pm – 4:15pm), one of the Montauk Music Festival Bands – O’hAnleigh – will give a workshop geared toward elementary school children at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center. The FREE workshop is called An Introduction to Folk Music.
In a world where pop music is very much electrified and digitized, folk instruments can bring enjoyment to all ages. You don’t need amps and sound systems to enjoy playing or performing music!
O’hAnleigh will display a variety of folk instruments (including different types of banjos, bouzouki, mandolin, autoharp, bowed psaltry, concertina, guitars, frame drums, penny whistles, small percussion, violin, etc.). In addition, they will talk about making music with the different instruments, and demonstrate the different sounds the instruments make in different combinations. The kids will then help create music with the various instruments.
If your child would like to participate, please call the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation at 668-1124 to reserve a spot. Parent chaperones are required for children in 1st grade and younger.
Thanks,
Maureen

Earth Day TODAY, Sunday, April 22
Hi All,
It looks like the rain will hold a little longer to give you a chance to get out and help clean up Montauk today during CCOM’s annual Earth Day Clean Up. Garbage bags and gloves will be distributed at the Montauk Movie from 9am to noon. Grab a few bags, fill them up with garbage from your favorite beach or trail, then drop the full bags in the dumpster at the Movie Theater. When the weather turns bad, stop on over at the Playhouse for Earth Day stories by Sima at Sea followed by crafts and treats. Stories begin in the gymnasium at 11:30am.
Stay dry!
Maureen

Jr. Lifeguard Benefit Friday, March 9 at ENE and Jr. Lifeguard Training Begins Sunday
Dear Parents and Friends,
The East Hampton Jr. Lifeguard program is having its annual fundraiser this Friday, March 9 at ENE from 7pm to 11pm. Tickets to this luau-themed event cost $40 per person/$75 per couple in advance, $45 and $85 at the door, and include music and dancing, happy hour bar prices and favorite ENE and Harvest dishes. Tickets will be available at the front desk at the Montauk School starting tomorrow, Thursday, March 8. If you can’t attend, you may want to purchase raffle tickets, which will also be available at school.
This fundraiser helps to cover the cost of the summer Jr. Lifeguard program, including staffing, equipment and travel. I can honestly say that the Jr. Lifeguard program is one of my favorites out of the many offered programs in our community. It provides water education and competition in a safe and fun environment – what the staff and volunteers accomplish with our kids each summer is truly amazing.
*Jr. Lifeguard Training starts this Sunday at 1:15 for 9- to 14-year olds at the East Hampton YMCA.** Cost is FREE.* You may want to get there a bit early to fill out paperwork. * For those 15 and over who are considering becoming lifeguards, there is a Spring training and conditioning program on Sundays from 2:30 tp 4:30 pm and Wednesdays from 7 to 9:15pm. Cost is $40.*
